Even though it’s the warmer temperatures that usually bring out the bugs, our Columbia and Charleston pest control experts have some great pest control tips for the winter season:
Clean out your gutters
Some pests look for warm places to nest and breed, and if you have an abundance of debris (like leaves, sticks, etc.) in your gutters, you may find these pests creating their own little home above yours.
Store firewood at a distance
Outside, firewood collects moisture and is a perfect place for roaches to live. Make sure they stay away from infesting your home by keeping your firewood covered and at least twenty feet from your home’s foundation.
Hose down plants
If you plan on bringing your outdoor plants inside during the cold months, hose them down thoroughly before you do. If there are any pests that call your plants home, you’ll bring them right into your house if you don’t gently rinse off the top and undersides of your plants’ leaves.
Clean up crumbs
The holidays are coming up, which means lots of food! After you’re done eating, make sure to clean up any leftover crumbs or scraps on your counters and floors. Once pests find a nice home to settle into, they’ll be looking for food; crumbs are perfect.
Rake your leaves
Leaves can be a source of warmth for pests and can be great hiding places, so make sure you rake and dispose of all the leaves around your yard – especially ones close to your home.
