Residential Termite Control
South Carolina is among the most active areas for termites in the U.S., and while termite activity is heightened in spring and summer, residential termite damage is a year-round concern. Termite damage can be extensive in a very short period of time, which is why early prevention and detection are so important. Ledford’s recommends an annual termite inspection. Our inspector will recommend treatment if needed and provide you with professional guidance on additional preventative measures that you can take. We also offer termite warranties that will give you additional peace of mind.
Watch for These Termite Signs
Even with regular inspections and preventative measures, homeowners should always be vigilant about the indications of a potential termite infestation. The presence of swarmers, which are flying termites, is often the first indication of an infestation. Swarmers are termites that have left the nest in search of mates. Some species swarm at night; others swarm during the day, and most drywood termites will swarm after a rain regardless during the spring and summer. Swarmers will discard their wings after mating, so discarded wings near a foundation are another common sign of an infestation. Mud tubes are also a common indication of termite activity as the termites used them to travel. You should also watch for hollow wood, blistering paint, and frass, which are wood-colored termite droppings.
Early Prevention Is the Key to Termite Control
The best way to avoid residential termite damage is early prevention. You should have an experienced termite control specialist inspect your property once a year and treat it as needed. But there are other preventative measures that you can take. Limit the food sources that attract termites, such as lumber, firewood, paper, and other cellulose-based materials, and if you do store such items, ensure that they’re kept away from your foundation. Ensure that all windows and vents have screens and that all weatherstripping is in good condition. Clean your gutters regularly. Take care of any moisture problems as soon as possible, and ensure that your downspouts channel rainwater away from your foundation.
Termite Damage
Termites are attracted to wood, so when they infest a home, it’s common for them to be in the walls where they undermine the structure of a home and also insulation, windows, door frames, and so forth. Be mindful that residential termite damage often appears as wear and tear, so when you do notice that kind of damage, it’s important to investigate it and determine the cause. Termites can also infest wood furniture, wood piles, carpets, books, newspaper stacks, and so on, and subterranean termites can damage a foundation by undermining supports in addition to the soil around the foundation.
Termite Inspection Services
When Ledford’s inspects a home for termites, we work from the ground up. We’ll look for signs of subterranean termites and our inspector will also assess around your property for problem areas that make you more prone to an infestation. If your home requires it, we’ll also apply a chemical barrier that deters termites and which only needs to be reapplied every seven to 10 years.
Our Termite Warranties
Warranties are an optional aspect of our termite services that provide homeowners additional peace of mind. Ledford’s offers a retreatment warranty, which covers an annual inspection, the initial termite treatment, and the cost of extermination should there be a re-emergence. We also offer a damage warranty. This would cover everything in the retreatment warranty but also covers remediation of the residential termite damage, such as the replacement of damaged wood.
Commercial Termite Control
Our services aren’t limited to preventing and remediating residential termite damage. Ledford’s also offers a full range of commercial pest control services and helps area businesses and other organizations protect themselves against termites. Businesses often have unique pest control needs, and we customize the services we offer to particular locations and various industries. These include customized services for restaurants, hotels, medical facilities, grocery stores, and so forth.
